Buying and selling safely
Staying safe on ApnaThrift
Every sale here is a local handover between two people. A few habits keep it simple and safe for both of you.
- Meet in a busy public place in daylight: a mall entrance, a café, a bank lobby.
- Tell someone where you are going, and take a friend for expensive items.
- Agree the time and place in ApnaThrift chat so there is a record.
- Check the item first, then pay. Never send money before you have seen it.
- Pay the seller only at the handover, once you have checked the item. Confirm any bank transfer in your own banking app, not from a screenshot.
- A seller who insists on an advance, a "booking fee" or a courier payment link is a warning sign.
- Compare it with the photos and the condition on the listing.
- Look at seams, zips, soles and labels. Ask about anything that is not shown.
- If it is not as described, you can walk away. You owe nothing until you pay.
- Use "Report" on the listing, the chat or the seller. On an item you bought, use "Report a problem" under My purchases.
- Block anyone who makes you uncomfortable from their store page or the chat menu.
- Keep the conversation in ApnaThrift chat. It helps us act on a report.
